We adopted our pup at Sterling in 2012. Great staff, clean location, and the adoption process was a breeze. I got a DNA test for our pup this year and found out that he's part lab, golden retriever, white swiss shepherd, and a mix of other sporting dogs. We're so happy that we went the adoption route!
Simply awful experience. Staff was rude and unapologetic. They even threatened to call the authorities on me and my children. When they asked if the cats would be indoor we said that it was possible to get out but we would try to keep them in. The employee then said she couldn't let us adopt. We had been to the shelter twice that day getting together what we needed to adopt and were ready to give the poor cats a loving home. They broke my children's hearts. They should be ashamed of themselves.
They treat all the animals really well. The staff is attentive and well organized. The facility is clean and well maintained.
Wasn't a great overall experience. The younger girls were polite and professional. The older woman who helped my family and me was condescending. When I asked if the puppy we were adopting was potty trained she scoffed at me (as she smoked her cigarette) and looked at me like I was crazy. I had to explain this was my first puppy adoption. Later on one of the girls asked if we had any other questions. I asked "what happens if the adoption turns south; like suddenly this dog starts biting my kids?" Immediately this same woman pipes up from the back of the room and says, "you can't just bring the dog back it's not a pair of jeans you can return just because you don't like how they look". Were it not for the fact that my daughter was already in love with the dog I would have walked out right there. I wasn't looking for a return policy and certainly wasn't looking for an attitude just before spending upwards of $700. I was looking for behavior training advice or suggestions for therapists. Finally, after a trip to the vet a few days after bringing the puppy home we found out she has both roundworm and hookworm.
We just got our first dog Ava black lab/hound she is a great dog and so adorable. The process was incredibly easy we had everything we needed beforehand. We got there very early so we secured our spot! The whole process took about 45 minutes and everything was all set before we left like medical issues and the supplies we needed. The staff was very helpful.
